Sleek underwater reconnaissance vehicle carried aboard some Federation starships. The aquashuttle was
specially designed to travel from a starship's hangar deck through space to a planet possessing a
watery surface. There the craft could travel easily on the surface of the water or underwater as a
submersible. The ship had a crew complement of about 9 persons and was equipped with two forward
mounted phaser emitters. In 2269, on stardate 5499.9, an aquashuttle with
registry number NCC-1701/7 was used by the crew of the
U.S.S. Enterprise to explore the surface of the planet Argo.
During that mission, the aquashuttle encountered a large and powerful sur-snake resulting in the
craft's destruction. ("The Ambergris Element").
